Alpine-devel:

Using Alpine 1.9.0_alpha4 booting from USB, I used the modified
syslinux.cfg file shown below. These syslinux.cfg modifications worked
fine with Alpine 1.7.x, 1.8.x (I also removed 'quiet' to give you more
output). Note that I found a workaround: uncomment the ttyS0 line in
/etc/inittab and lbu commit it (I don't think that worked with Alpine
1.8.x and earlier, but I'm not sure).

----start syslinux.cfg---
serial 0 9600
timeout 20
prompt 1

label grsec
       kernel /boot/grsec
       append initrd=/boot/grsec.gz alpine_dev=sda1:vfat
modules=usb-storage,sd-mod console=tty1,38400 console=ttyS0,9600
----end syslinux.cfg---

See call trace below.

Thats probably true. The apkolv is now extracted from the initramfs so
when switching root busybox init have your /etc/inittab. Before you had
to modify the initramfs image. Now its enough to lbu commit.
