I noticed that there is a vritualbox kernel module in mainline kernel and the same kernel module is also provided by virtualbox-guest-modules, because not all of the vbox modules are in mainline yet. Can you try experiment a bit by remove/rename the mainline kernel module and see if that makes any difference?
