A logo should be immediately and distinctly recognizable. As a simple test, try to draw the current logo as exactly as possible just from memory. How many "mountain peaks" are there and how steep do they connect? Then try the same with the new logo. Even though you certainly have not seen it as often as the current logo, you may be able to re-create the new logo more accurately. Everything else is just a personal and indisputable preference.
