Just a thought.
On Devuan/Debian the pkg iniramfs-tools allows to easily build an optimized initrd.img including 
just the drivers needed by the system.
For instance, on my Devuan box the "optimized" initrd.img is 6.6 M instead of 27.5 M of the 
standard one.
I use it, the system works fine and boots faster.
It would be nice to see this feature implemented on Alpine.
