Those will only be available from http repos. Other packages you think we dont really need on the iso? dovecot? man/groff? Other options might be to have an alpine-router spin, and fill up the alpine.iso with 700MB data. (currently the full thing is almost 1GB). Maybe an alpine-full USB image with everything? who uses cdrom now days anyway? The problem with the "full" version is that it will double disk usage on mirrors so I think it would be nice if we could avoid the "full" version. I'm open to ideas. -- Natanael Copa --- Unsubscribe: alpine-devel+unsubscribe@lists.alpinelinux.org Help: alpine-devel+help@lists.alpinelinux.org --- From nobody Thu Mar 28 21:42:37 2024 X-Original-To: alpine-devel@lists.alpinelinux.org Delivered-To: alpine-devel@lists.alpinelinux.org Received: from sp4.qcslink.com (sp4.qcslink.com [200.35.147.4]) by lists.alpinelinux.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DE5BD3617A29 for ; Wed, 21 Jul 2010 00:43:05 +0000 (UTC) Received: from sp4.qcslink.com (localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1]) by sp4.qcslink.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6575C1A647 for ; Tue, 20 Jul 2010 20:43:05 -0400 (EDT) Received: from [10.252.6.46] (c-71-198-163-57.hsd1.ca.comcast.net [71.198.163.57]) (using TLSv1 with cipher DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) (Authenticated sender: nangel@nothome.org) by sp4.qcslink.com (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 16A911A633 for ; Tue, 20 Jul 2010 20:43:04 -0400 (EDT) Message-ID: <4C4642DB.10901@nothome.org> Date: Tue, 20 Jul 2010 17:44:11 -0700 From: Nathan Angelacos User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.10) Gecko/20100619 Icedove/3.0.5 X-Mailinglist: alpine-devel Precedence: list List-Id: Alpine Development List-Unsubscribe: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: MIME-Version: 1.0 To: alpine-devel@lists.alpinelinux.org Subject: Re: [alpine-devel] reducing size of alpine iso References: In-Reply-To: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Virus-Scanned: ClamAV using ClamSMTP On 07/20/10 06:03, Natanael Copa wrote: > > The problem with the "full" version is that it will double disk usage > on mirrors so I think it would be nice if we could avoid the "full" > version. > > I'm open to ideas. > Crazy idea: Mini-iso only. We have alpine-mini.iso for that. > After that maby some scripts like > alpine-pbx > apline-fw > alpine-web > alpine-proxy > alpine-mails > alpine-mysql > etc > that would download the required packages for each. hm... the problem is tha the index is signed. We have the apk cache: http://alpinelinux.org/wiki/How_to_enable_APK_caching You'd still know the exact package names you need (apk add postfix ... etc) > a good "apk show package" with some description of the package will be > nice though =A0like "apt-get show package" Try 'apk info -a package' (Timo: we maybe want apk info do the same as apk info -a by defau= lt) One of the ideas with apk-tools is to keep as little info as possible in the apk index. Adding long description for each package would make the index size many times bigger (and apk would be slower). Instead, we provide the URL where user can find more info about the software. --=20 Natanael Copa --- Unsubscribe: alpine-devel+unsubscribe@lists.alpinelinux.org Help: alpine-devel+help@lists.alpinelinux.org --- From nobody Thu Mar 28 21:42:37 2024 X-Original-To: alpine-devel@lists.alpinelinux.org Delivered-To: alpine-devel@lists.alpinelinux.org Received: from mail-ew0-f54.google.com (mail-ew0-f54.google.com [209.85.215.54]) by lists.alpinelinux.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8B5B23617A29 for ; Wed, 21 Jul 2010 08:04:21 +0000 (UTC) Received: by ewy26 with SMTP id 26so2361236ewy.13 for ; Wed, 21 Jul 2010 01:04:20 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=domainkey-signature:received:received:sender:message-id:date:from :user-agent:mime-version:to:cc:subject:references:in-reply-to :x-enigmail-version:content-type:content-transfer-encoding; bh=TKvD/0xkha6ljHcOgWSgEO67UTDUlrcxCeh78s1MGDU=; b=tq5EVBG11KKG41SJlXWCNfPzUYPJE0aHQmk9NNo9vYu5TbZD0fnjpuvjWYEdflA/gn ypnHVyMAYiEELJm3GAKpjzGmzVt+NSyPfGha72q+PKRNXIjaXeCNkxHH1LnxvcwsMKxh mwKKad2uWzhh6RJPD+2jJfKE+Vak6b40ZURGE= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=nofws; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=sender:message-id:date:from:user-agent:mime-version:to:cc:subject :references:in-reply-to:x-enigmail-version:content-type :content-transfer-encoding; b=WeDSHXj6fy3yg/7djI+YltuKN9B+k1Ti011FdVOPOUMwZgHA6KmsBv78cIUjCt0iyz DxSxHXrEOKTxsvbvhAp+jUCwQLMqJ+nDerXrkrSZ5oBLP0+sqrhYVeVzNTOgTp5MnSRO EPbBlGxEvd1kf/9yoMEliGcMkWKUqf1oTW+xI= Received: by 10.213.30.15 with SMTP id s15mr5839630ebc.56.1279699460555; Wed, 21 Jul 2010 01:04:20 -0700 (PDT) Received: from [10.26.34.2] (letku109.adsl.netsonic.fi [194.29.195.109]) by mx.google.com with ESMTPS id x54sm52973860eeh.11.2010.07.21.01.04.18 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=RC4-MD5); Wed, 21 Jul 2010 01:04:19 -0700 (PDT) Sender: =?UTF-8?Q?Timo_Ter=C3=A4s?= Message-ID: <4C46A9FF.4020207@iki.fi> Date: Wed, 21 Jul 2010 11:04:15 +0300 From: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Timo_Ter=E4s?= User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.10) Gecko/20100527 Thunderbird/3.0.5 X-Mailinglist: alpine-devel Precedence: list List-Id: Alpine Development List-Unsubscribe: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Natanael Copa CC: Harry Lachanas , Alpine Developers Subject: Re: [alpine-devel] reducing size of alpine iso References: <4C468F89.8050403@freemail.gr> In-Reply-To: X-Enigmail-Version: 1.0.1 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit On 07/21/2010 10:54 AM, Natanael Copa wrote: >> a good "apk show package" with some description of the package will be >> nice though like "apt-get show package" > > Try 'apk info -a package' > > (Timo: we maybe want apk info do the same as apk info -a by default) Or maybe just -dw or similar? > One of the ideas with apk-tools is to keep as little info as possible > in the apk index.
