Where does the overhead come from? As explained in an earlier post in this thread, the cost of maintaining Python packages is low in comparison to Ruby. I fail to see how the mere existence of a package that has no native dependencies would carry a significant maintenance overhead. Usually they work just fine. And if no one has time to regularly apply fixes on a particular package, py-* or anything else, the package should be moved to the community repository.
