I'm doing something wrong but can't figure out what.
I had installed Alpine on my laptop before and don't remember
having any troubles.
After a crash, I reformatted my HD and reinstalled Alpine.
When I launched X with startx as a user, the desktop froze.
I configured X with Xorg -configure, copied xorg.conf to /etc/X11,
and it worked just fine.
Now, I installed Alpine in another partition, to have a spare system to
experiment with. This too is a fresh install, I ran xorg-setup-base,
installed all the same drivers (xf86-input-synaptics, xf86-input-libinput,
xf86-input-evdev, xf86-input-keyboard, kbd, xinit, polkit, etc).
The same issue arised, startx works fine as root, but freezes as user.
I checked all the files in /home/<username> and the permissions.
I also copied the working xorg.xonf to /etc/X11, and then even generated a
new one. I created a new second user too.
Nothing seems to work. When the system freezes, a xorg.0.log file is not
created in /var/log, so I can't compare the output there.
Since it works as root, I assume it's a permission issue.
What am I missing?
